Office hacks: a different way to create multiple choice coursework

Ordinary multiple choice questions are usually done by using checkboxes, which seems a bit dull. It would be refreshing to make the multiple choice questions in the form of a mini-game. For example, the multiple choice question of choosing the picture of a happy apple can be changed to “Please pick all the fruits that indicate happiness”, and when you click on the apple on the tree with the word “happy” written on it, the apple will fall and the answer will appear when you click “Finish” (Figure 1). The above courseware can be designed with Articulate Storyline 3 software.

1. Interface Design

Open Articulate Storyline 3 and create a new project. In the “Story View” state, double-click “Untitled Slide” to enter the editing window, right-click on the blank space, select “Set Background Format”, and set the desired background in the pop-up window. Switch to the “Design” tab, click “Article Size”, and set the size of the slide in the pop-up window according to your needs. Switch to the “Insert” tab, click “Picture → Picture from File” to insert the required “apple tree” illustration; then insert several “apple” illustrations and the corresponding Then insert several “apple” illustrations and corresponding text boxes, enter the required words in the text boxes, and combine the text boxes with the apple pictures. When the elements are inserted in the slide, the corresponding element names and their contents are displayed in the timeline. 2. Add motion paths

After the interface design is finished, you can add an animation path to the combination. Select a combination of drawings, such as “happy”, select the “Animation” tab, click “Add motion path→Linear”, then drag the end point of the action down to the root level of the tree. position, enter “happy path” in the “Action Name”. Add other combinations of actions in the same way (Figure 3).

3. Change action settings

After adding an action path for each combination, an action will be automatically generated in the right trigger window, and this automatically generated action needs further modification. Select the “Happy” action, click “Edit Selected Trigger”, and select “User Click” in the pop-up window at “Time”. “, “object” at the choice of “happy”. Thus, when clicking on the “happy” combination, the combination will fall along the corresponding path. The other actions are changed in the same way (Figure 4).

4. Adding Variable Control

To determine whether the selected result is correct or not, you can control it by variables. On the right side of the window, click “Manage Item Variables” in the “Trigger” panel to add a variable with the name “df”, type “number”, the value of “0”, this variable is used to record the correct number of completed answers (Figure 5).

5. Add an interactive display

Select the “Insert” tab, click “Buttons”, insert a button in the appropriate place on the slide, right-click it, select “Edit Text”, type “Select the button and set its formatting in the “Format” tab as needed. On the right side of the “Slide Layers”, click on the new layer named “Correct” and design the interface that needs to be displayed when correct using shapes or other images in this layer. Create a new layer named “Error” and also design the interface to be displayed in case of error (Figure 7).

6. Publish your work

Click on the “Player” button, and in the pop-up window, remove all the checkboxes for resources, menus, and so on from the Features tab. Finally, click the “Publish” button, select the Web tab in the pop-up window, enter the title, and set the publish folder to publish.
