System hacks: automatic emptying of the Recycle Bin several ways to achieve

The files in the Desktop Recycle Bin always need to be emptied manually, don’t you think it is rather troublesome? Then, why don’t we think of a way to make the Recycle Bin empty automatically according to our own wishes?

1. Use the settings of the Recycle Bin itself

First of all, we can use the settings of the system Recycle Bin itself to achieve automatic cleaning. Right-click the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop, and then select “Properties” in the menu, in the “Recycle Bin Properties” dialog box that then appears, check the “Do not move files to the Recycle Bin, remove files immediately after they are deleted After checking the option “Do not move files to the Recycle Bin, delete them as soon as they are removed”, apply it and confirm it, the Recycle Bin will have the function of automatic emptying in real time. Thus, when you drop a file into the Recycle Bin, you are performing two actions, one is putting the file into the Recycle Bin, and the other is emptying the Recycle Bin (Figure 1).

The above method is obviously more “arbitrary”, it cuts off the back way to get back directly after we delete the file, so it is generally not recommended. Of course, there are still ways to retrieve them through anti-deletion software.

2. Use storage aware settings to achieve

Using the “Storage Aware” function of Windows 10 system, you can also achieve the automatic emptying of the Recycle Bin. Click “Start→Settings→System→Storage” to open the “Storage” settings window, and click the “Configure Storage Awareness or Run Now” link (Figure 2).

Next, in the Configure Storage Awareness window, turn on the “Storage Awareness” switch and set the period to run Storage Awareness; under the “Temporary files” option, first check the “Delete unused temporary files of my apps Under the “Temporary files” option, first check the “Delete unused temporary files from my applications” option, and then under the “Delete files from the Recycle Bin if they exist for longer than the following time” list, select the period to automatically delete files from the Recycle Bin (Figure 3). In this way, the purpose of automatically emptying the Recycle Bin is also achieved.

3. Prepare a simple batch process to achieve

We can also achieve the purpose of automatically emptying the Recycle Bin by manually preparing a batch file. For details about the method, please join the article “Manually Creating an Automatically Emptying Recycle Bin” in Issue 19, 2017 of this publication.

4. Implement with third-party widgets

If you think all the above methods are tedious, then there is no better way to achieve this than through a third-party widget called Auto Recycle Bin. Just install and run it, and then you can clean it automatically.

After running the Auto Recycle Bin software, first select the cleaning method (manual, automatic system startup cleaning, regular automatic cleaning), here we are going to select the third option. Then select the partition you want to set up and complete the cleanup cycle and recycle bin size settings (Figure 4). Finally, click the Process all button to complete the settings and wait for the conditions to be met to automatically perform the cleanup task.
