Software recommendation: automatic file classification Generate classification reports

Do you want to know the distribution of various files in a partition of your hard drive? Do you want to know the percentage of various files collected in the storage mobile drive? I’m afraid that the simple statistics function of Windows 10 itself will not satisfy you. Then, borrow DiskSorter software to automatically sort statistics for disk files!

1. Preliminary Setup

First of all, install and run DiskSorter, the first time you run the software, an initial configuration window will pop up. If we don’t want to process system files, we need to unselect Process System Files; if you want to include linked files or file shortcuts on the disk, select Process Directory Links and Junctions; if you select Show Directory and File Scanning Errors option, you can display the errors found during the scanning of directories and files. Once set, click the Save button to save (Figure 1).

2. Select the disk

Next, add the disks you want to count. Click on the plus button to the right of the Input button in the left column of the software to bring up the Add Target selection menu, select the Add Mutiple Directories item, and in the Select Directories or Files To Process window that pops up, select the disk item (you can use Shift or Ctrl keys with mouse click). (you can use Shift or Ctrl key with mouse click to make multiple selections in consecutive or non-consecutive steps). Once selected, click the Select button to continue (Figure 2).

3. Set up analysis

After selecting the disk, you will automatically return to the main window of the software. Click the first button Classify on the toolbar, then, in the Default Profile configuration window that pops up, if you want to set the filtering conditions, you can click the Options button to set them, where Rules is the Rules to add, you can add custom filtering conditions through this window. Finally, click the Classify button to scan and analyze (Figure 3).

4. Exporting results

After the file scan analysis is complete, select the Categorize By Extension option in the list of categorization methods in the lower right pane of the main window of the software, and then click the Charts button on the toolbar to get a distribution of files by category on all selected disks (Figure 4).

Finally, click the Save button at the bottom left corner of the pie chart page and select the format (HTML, PDF, Excel, TXT, CSV and XML types of text) from the menu to save the report, or you can choose to save the analysis results as a report file as BMP, JPG, PNG and other image files.
