Now that you have learned about tables, you may want to converttabular text to a table without retyping the information. Word canconvert existing text to tables—and vice versa. Follow these steps:
- Select the table to convert to text.
- From the Table Tools contextualmenu, select Layout.
- Under the Data group,locate Convert toText, as illustrated in the followingscreenshot:
- Select Tabs from the dialog boxprovided and click the OK button tocommit the change, as illustrated in the followingscreenshot:
Let’s go through the steps to convert text to a table. It is alwayseasier if your text contains tabs separating the text and is consistentin that there is only one tab in between typed text. Follow thesesteps:
- Select the text to convert to a table.
- Click on the Insert tab.
- From the Table drop-down list,choose Convert Text toTable…, as illustrated in the followingscreenshot:
- Choose how to split the text using the dialog box provided, asillustrated in the following screenshot:
- The options presented in the dialog box are normally correct due toWord picking up the number of columns and separation type from thetext.
- Click on the OK button to convertthe text to a table.
