Creating a named range from selected cells in Microsoft Excel 2019

  1. Continuing from the preceding example, highlight a range of cellsthat have headings to the top and left. Include the headings in yourselection. We will select the range A2:F20.
  1. On the Formulas tab, locate theDefine Names group, and then click onCreate from Selectionasillustrated in the following screenshot:

  1. Excel automatically assesses the data and indicates how it willgenerate range names for the selected range. In this case, it hasselected Top row and Left column. Remove the tick from Left column in the box shown in thefollowing screenshot as we do not have headings in the first column onthe worksheet and only want to include Toprow for this example:

  1. Click on OK to continue.
  2. To see a list of existing or newly created range names in theworksheet, select the arrow on the Name Box to view the name ranges justcreated from the selected data, as illustrated in the followingscreenshot:
