Since Windows 7, a sticky note feature has been added to the system, which allows users to quickly record some information. However, many users are not familiar with this sticky note feature, and some of them don’t even know it exists. Here’s how to use the sticky note feature to record information and back up the relevant data and information.
Start and close the sticky notes application
As Windows 10 system has already shown many system functions by way of applications, the Sticky Notes function has been renamed as “Sticky Notes” application at this time. So we only need to activate this app if we want to start Sticky Notes. Usually we want to open an application through the Windows 10 Start menu to complete. But this is a complicated operation, and we can press the shortcut key Win+W to see it in the pop-up “Windows Ink Workspace”, and click the “Sticky Notes” icon to activate it (Figure 1).
Next, we just need to type or paste the relevant content into the sticky note to quickly complete the recording operation (Figure 2). Sticky Notes application is very easy and convenient to operate, but it has a very obvious defect that there is no close button in the upper right corner of the sticky notes window, so it seems to be very troublesome for us to close it. In fact, we can find its icon in the taskbar, right-click on the icon and select the “Close Window” command in the pop-up menu.
Fast backup of database contents
The next time a user enables Sticky Notes application, the number of notes will be displayed normally. However, if you reinstall the system, you will definitely lose this information, so we need to backup the corresponding data in time. First of all, open the system’s Explorer, type %LocalAppData%PackagesMicrosoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbweLocalState in the address bar, and then press Enter to see the storage directory of sticky notes. In it, you can find a file named plum.sqlite, which is the database where all the sticky notes are stored, copy this file to other folders for backup.
If you think it’s too much trouble to backup manually, you can also download and run the Dropboxifie widget. First click on the “Dropbox folder” button and select the directory to backup to in the pop-up window. When you are done, a confirmation window will pop up, so press the “Yes” button to confirm. Next, set a task name for the file backup by entering it in the “Name” option. Then, in the “Source” option, set the directory where the “Sticky Notes” application database will be stored. When you are done, click the “Dropboxify” button and the backup operation will be performed automatically (Figure 3).
Users should never choose the folder directory of the system disk for backup.
