Our file collections are often scattered in different locations such as CD-ROMs, removable hard drives or local data partitions, making them less convenient to find. If you create and manage a directory of your file collection, you can directly operate on the directory files when searching, so that you don’t need to go through the original files first, which can greatly improve the search efficiency. In addition, if the original data is lost or damaged, through the exported directory list, we can quickly know the name of the file, which can provide a basis for replacing the data. To meet the above requirements, we can use Filelist Creator software to complete the task of creating and exporting resource lists.
1. List of all kinds of original files into the library
First, add the file source disk, folder or file to be exported to the list. If you want to import all the files in a data disk, click the Search Folder button, specify the disk directory to be searched, and click the OK button to search and add. If you need to import only the file directories in a certain folder, just select the individual folder from the directory tree. If you only need to import certain files, click the Add Files button to add them (Figure 1).
2. Exclude specific unwanted files
If you need to exclude specific file types from the source files participating in the export list, you can click the Filter button in the lower right corner of the above search selection window to set the filter; you can also click the Filter button in the selection settings pane on the right side of the main window of the software to enter the filter settings window and set the filter conditions (Figure 2). After the conditions are set, the list of added files will contain only records that meet the conditions.
3. Make a personalized file list
In the condition setting pane on the right, in addition to specifying filtering conditions such as containing subfolders, custom file names and file extensions, you can also set the file columns for various categories. Here you can select files such as audio, video, picture, TXT text, document, etc. by category for attributes, and you can also set some other attributes. For example, select the Audio item to selectively search for audio files by attributes. After clicking the small triangle button to expand the Audio list, you can filter the options such as artist, album, track, date, etc. (Figure 3). Other types of files are set up in a roughly similar way.
4. Generate multiple formats list report
Click the Export Format list in the right pane to select the type of list output, including TXT, HTML, CSV, XLSX and other common documents as well as PNG, JPG, BMP and other common image formats. Once you have selected the list output format, click the Save button to save it (Figure 4).
