Software recommendations: folder capacity attributes to enhance the display

While Windows Explorer displays file properties in a more detailed way, the display of folder properties is not as good as it could be. For example, the display of folder size is inadequate. With the help of tools or plug-ins, you can enhance the display of folder size properties.

1. Dedicated display tool for folder size

First of all we can use the dedicated tool SizeExplorer Pro to analyze the capacity of folders. Select the folder to be analyzed in the directory tree in the left pane of the SizeExplorer Pro software, then press the Explorer button on the toolbar, and a list of files including the folder size will be displayed in the right pane. If the folders are not arranged together, they can be sorted by clicking on the Name heading column. If the Size column does not show the folder size, click the Refresh button to refresh it (Figure 1).

In addition, you can also analyze the capacity of the subfolders under the selected folder by using the right-click menu command “SizeExplorer Pro→Explorer” for the folder in Explorer (Figure 2).

2. Floating window way to display folder capacity

After installing Folder Size, a small software that displays folder properties, whenever a folder is opened in Explorer, a floating window pops up with only two columns of data, Name and Size, showing the capacity of each folder (Figure 3).

Tip: If you temporarily do not want to display the folder properties window, you can do so by deselecting the Show Folder Size popups option of the Folder Size icon right-click menu command on the tray.

3. Graphical display of cross-folder files by category size

We can also display the disk footprint of each type of file across folders, by file category. This can be done with CCleaner’s disk analyzer. Select “Tools→Disk Analyzer” in CCleaner, then select the drive to be analyzed and the file categories to be analyzed, and finally click the “Analyze” button (Figure 4).

After that, the disk analyzer analyzes the selected range of disk files and, after the analysis, graphically displays the disk capacity occupied by each type of file by file category (Figure 5).
