Formatting sections in Microsoft PowerPoint 2019

If you are scrolling through a huge presentation or applyingfinishing touches, it can be extremely frustrating to find slides toformat or edit. The Sections featureallows you to organize your presentation into categories so that findingslides (for example, the introduction, sport, financials, charts) on aparticular topic or category is simple.

In addition, if working on a presentation with multiple contributors,you can assign sections to different people. Reordering slides orviewing a presentation in Slide Sorterview with sections applied is a breeze!

  1. To add a section, you can be in Normal view or Slide Sorter view. For this example, we willbe using the SSG-Sections.pptx presentation.
  2. The feature is accessible by right-clicking on a slide or in betweentwo slides, or from the Slides groupon the Home tab.
  3. Once you have inserted a section, an arrow will appear just abovethe slide entitled Untitled Section, and the Rename Section dialog box will populate,as illustrated in the following screenshot:

  1. Type a new name for the section into the Section name: text placeholder. For thisexample, we will use the text Introduction and click on Rename, as illustrated in thefollowing screenshot:

  1. We will now create a section for dogs, rabbits, and birds.
  2. Don’t forget to save the presentation when complete.
  3. The created sections are displayed in the Slide Pane, but can also be viewed much moreclearly in the Slide Sorter view dueto the sections showing the slide thumbnails, as can be seen in thefollowing screenshot:

  1. Sections can be collapsed or expanded using either the collapse orexpand arrow to the left of a section name. To collapse or expand allsections in a presentation, click on the Sections icon located on the Slides group, and select Collapse All or Expand All, as illustrated in thefollowing screenshot:

  1. To rename a section, right-click on the section name, and thenchoose Rename Section from theshortcut list provided.
  2. To move sections within a presentation, right-click onthe section name, and then choose Move Section Up or Move Section Down.
  3. If you want to remove a section, simply right-click on the sectionname and choose the applicable option from the shortcut menu. Be reallycareful with this option as at times, you may want to remove just thesection category and not the slides underneath the section!
