In order to manage the huge amount of files in the computer, we usually put similar files in the same folder, but for some special reasons (such as disk space limitations, etc.), some files may not be easy to move, so we can take the method of adding tags to Cloud Notes to categorize and manage the files without moving the location.
Add all managed files
Since it is not possible to add tags to files in the system explorer, we will first install tagLyst software (www.taglyst.com). In the pop-up window, first click the “Add” button in “My Library” on the left side, then a dialog box will pop up telling the user which folders not to select, so as to avoid problems during the operation. We directly click on the “OK” button and then in the pop-up dialog box, select the folder directory to be managed (Figure 1).
When the folder directory is selected, all the files in it will be displayed in the window list, and we can add other folders to be managed in the same way (Figure 2).
If there are new files to manage, we can move them to the folder we just added in the traditional way. Or click on the “Move Files” button in the toolbar and select the files to be moved in the pop-up dialog box. This will bring up a dialog box with the details of the file we are moving. Then click the “Next” button and select the directory and tags for the files to be moved. Finally, click on the “Start File Move” button to move the file from its previous location to the location we specified. Click on the “Card List”, “File List”, “Inspiration Flow” or “Statistics View” buttons in the toolbar. button in the toolbar, you can display the files in the window list in different ways.
Manage files with tags
After adding the files to be managed, we can start setting up the tags. First, click the “Settings” button in the “Tags” column of the list, and then click the “Add new tag name” button in the pop-up dialog box. For example, let’s set a tag name of “Novel” here. Then the user can set the grouping and style as needed, and click the “Save” button to finish the creation of the tag.
Now we find the file we want to manage in the software list, click it by the left mouse button, so that a file properties editing bar will appear in the right side of the software window. The options include Title, Tags, Preview, Notes, etc. We find the “Tags” option and click on its “Edit” button to add the corresponding tags as needed (Figure 3).
By following this method and adding tags to each file to be managed, we can later just click on the name of one of the tags in the list. Even if it exists in a different folder directory, the corresponding file can be quickly filtered out (Figure 4).
Tip: Since tagLyst is a file name tagging software, it can help users find files quickly through other software, even if they are not installed on other systems. For example, if we created the “Novel” tag earlier, any file tagged with “Novel” can be found quickly by typing the tag name in Everything and other software (Figure 5).
