Naming a range of cells in Microsoft Excel 2019

  1. Open the RangeNames.xlsx workbook.  
  2. Select the cells you wish to enter as a name range on the worksheet.For this example, we will name the Product and theSales column data. Firstly, we will name the products.
  3. Select cells B3:B44.
  4. Click in the Name Box area, as illustrated in the followingscreenshot:

  1. Type a name for the selected range into the Name Box area. For thisexample, we will use the name PRODUCTS.
  2. Press Enter on your keyboard to confirm the range name.Alternatively, select the cells you wish to enter as a range name on theworksheet.
  3. Select the Formulas tab, thenlocate the Define Name icon from theDefined Names group, as illustrated inthe following screenshot:

  1. Click to select DefineName….
  2. In the New Name dialog box, entera name for the selected range in the text area provided, or use thedefault name given, as illustrated in the followingscreenshot:

  1. Click on OK when complete. Clickon another cell far away from the range of cells you were just workingwith.
  2. To move to this name range quickly and to highlight the selectedcells, click on the drop-down arrow in the Name Box area, and thenselect PRODUCTS. The range highlightsautomatically on the worksheet.
  3. Repeat the steps to name the SALESrange of cells.
