Any kind of operating system in all smart devices depends on various file types that are necessary for the optimal work of the device. Most tech-savvy users are aware of which file types are most commonly used and will be able to identify which program they need to open it. There are, however, some file types that not many people know where they’re from and what they do, files like DAA.
The Direct Access Archive or DAA file is a disk image file designed to work with PowerISO. Since it is a disk image file, it is an alternative to ISO or DMG, but it is almost proprietary to be used only with the PowerISO tool. If you take into consideration that this is a disk image file as well as an archive, you get the best of both worlds. You can mount it as any other image file, but you also have the option to compress it. Among the other benefits, you can also split it into multiple smaller files, set a partword to protect it, add encryption, and much more.
DAA is a great file type, but we are here to answer a fundamental question: how to open DAA files?
Since DAA files are proprietary to be used with PowerISO, you almost have no choice but to use that tool. The reason why we say that you almost have no choice if because some other tools can work with DAA files. We will go over them later in the articles.
The most important thing you need to open up a DAA file is to have PowerISO installed. Run the application, and from the “File” menu, click on “Open.” An explorer window will open from where you will need to open the DAA file from the location where it’s stored. Alternatively, you can locate the file with Windows Explorer and double click it.
In the main section of the window, you will see the contents stored in the DAA file. To extract it, you need to click on the “Extract” icon in the upper part of the window.
A new window will open from where you will need to select the destination where you want the files to be extracted.
Using other tools
While PowerISO is an excellent tool for working with any kind of image file, the problem is that the trial version will limit you to files smaller than 300 MB. In today’s world, that is not a lot. To be able to bypass that limitation, you will need to purchase the premium version.
Fortunately, for you, there may not be a need for that. You can check out AcetoneISO and DAA2ISO as decent tools that can work with DAA files. There are others that are more popular, but you will have the same problem as with PowerISO — you will either have to go with a trial app or use a free version, which will have tons of limitations.
Most people panic when they see a type of file that they are not familiar with. If you found yourself in the same situation with a DAA file on your computer, follow our guide on how to open DAA file, and you will have no problems.
