Office tips: PowerPoint 2019 to create three-dimensional animation

The new smooth switching and import 3D model functions in PowerPoint 2019 make it no longer out of reach to make 3D animations with PPT.

Rotating coins – smooth switching to do 3D animation

Smooth switching was originally a function that Office 365 users could only use, but now in Office 2019 is standard, the application of the switching effect can make a lot of wonderful animation, here to do a rotating coin.

First of all, prepare two pictures (both sides of the coin), draw a square circle, right-click and select “Set Shape Format”, click “Shape Options” under the “Fill and Line”, and then Select “Picture or Texture Fill”, click the “File” button to insert the obverse image of the coin; click “Effect”, in the “3D Rotation “Select “Preset” under “Perspective: Front”, set “X Rotation” to 180°, perspective to 45°, height from the bottom edge of 2 pounds (Figure 1).

Press Ctrl+C to copy the obverse image, insert a new slide, and press Ctrl+V to paste it into the current page, also right-click and select “Set Shape Format”, change the fill image to the reverse image of the coin; set its “3D Rotation” to 359.9°; click the “Size and Properties” button, set its position value to the same value as the coin’s obverse; select the second page, click the “Switch” tab, select the “Smooth “effect (Figure 2), and finally show the slide, you can see the coin three-dimensional rotation animation.

Flip the mapping – Import 3D models for animation

PowerPoint 2019 can import 3D models, and in Windows 10, the new drawing 3D can draw 3D models and mapping, drawing 3D generated files, can be directly imported into PowerPoint 2019 to use, which also provides a convenience for us to make real 3D animation with PowerPoint.

Open the “Draw 3D” software, click the “New” button to create a file, click the “3D Shape” button, select “3D Object “under” the “cube”, hold down the Shift key and drag to draw a cube (Figure 3). The buttons around the cube can rotate the cube.

Click the “Sticker” button to open the sticker interface, click the “Choose your own sticker” button (Figure 4), and click the “Add Sticker” button to open a picture to be used as a sticker for the cube.

After opening the image, you can adjust the size of the image so that it covers exactly one face of the cube (Figure 5), and click the “√” button to confirm the mapping when finished.

After mapping one side, press and hold the X-axis rotation button to rotate the cube to the other side (Figure 6), and then click the “Mapping” button to add the mapping to the other side and adjust it; so rotate the cube in turn, and mapping can be done separately. Finally, press Ctrl+S to save the file, here choose the save type as “3D model”.

Open PowerPoint 2019, switch to the “Insert” tab, click the “3D Model” button to open the saved 3D model file; click the middle of the “Rotate” can rotate the cube (Figure 7); click “Set 3D Model Format” under “3D Model”, you can rotate the cube by “Model Rotation” or “Camera”.

Select the cube, switch to the “Animation” tab, where you can see five kinds of animation specifically for 3D models: Enter, Carousel, Swing, Jump, Exit; select the “Carousel” animation, and then click “Effect Options” to set the rotation direction: up, down, left, right, clockwise and counterclockwise; the number of rotations: half rotation, full rotation, continuous; here set the rotation to the right, the number of continuous, and the duration of 20 (Figure 8).

Finally show the slide, you can see the cube mapping will keep rotating for 20 seconds. Although this is only this example is only a simple application of the 3D model, but the changes it brings is definitely a brand new start, and the 3D function in PPT will become more and more abundant in the future.
