For elementary school students, memorizing English words is a difficult task, and it would be great if you can play games to consolidate the memory of words. In fact, you can use PowerPoint to make an interactive word memorization game. Next, I will introduce you how to achieve it.
Making the game interface
To make this game, you need PocketAnimation, a PPT plug-in (hereinafter referred to as PA plug-in), download it from http://www.papocket.com/, download it and install it as a backup.
Next, run PowerPoint (2016 version for example) and create a new PPT document “English Word Game.PPTX”. Then insert a blank slide and right-click it, select “Set Background Format” to add a background image for the slide. Then switch to the “Insert” tab, insert six text boxes, and type “banana”, “apple” and ” grape”, “What is this?”, “Think again” and “You are so smart”. The text of “What is this? Finally, set the font, color and size of the text, and arrange the position (Figure 1).
Switch to the “Insert” tab, select “Image → Picture” in turn, insert a picture related to the word guessed, such as with “banana” related.
Continue in the “Insert” tab, select “Shape → Rounded Rectangle”, insert two rounded rectangles. In the “Start” tab, click the “Quick Style”, select your favorite style and enter the text “next level”, “Exit “. Finally, insert a yellow rectangle next to the text “think again” and “you’re so smart”, right-click the rectangle, select “Place on bottom → Place on bottom” to place it on the bottom.
Adding custom animations
To make the game interactive, you must add custom animations to the text content of the game interface.
Select the “banana” text (Figure 2), then switch to the “Animation” tab, click “Add Animation→Appear”, and add an appearance animation effect for it. Finally double-click the “Animation Pane” in the “appear” animation option, open the “appear” dialog box, “Timing “tab, set the “Start” parameter to “Simultaneous with previous animation”.
Continue to select the text “banana”, switch to the “Pocket Animation PA” tab related to the PA plug-in, click on the “Animation Storm” button, open the “Animation Storm” dialog box and perform the following actions (Figure 3).
Click the “+” sign under the “Animation List”, select “Custom Animation”, add a custom animation; click the “+” sign under the “Action list” twice, select “Settings”, and add two Set Visibility” property in the display area below the “Action List”; repeat the operation in step 1, and then create a “Custom Animation”, click the “+” sign below the “Action List” twice respectively, and select “+” sign, select “Basic Properties”, and add two “Property X coordinate” properties in the display area under “Action List”. ” properties in the display area under “Action List”.
Set animation parameters
Select the first “Custom Animation” on the left, the second “Set Visibility” property in the middle, and set the “Property Type” parameter on the right to “X coordinate” (on the right side of Figure 3, the property under “Action list” becomes “Set X coordinate”), and the “Set value ” property is set to “0.5742”.
Select the third “Set Visibility” property in the middle, and set the “Property Type” parameter on the right to “Y Coordinate” (on the right side of Figure 3, the property name becomes “Set Y coordinate”), and set the “Set value” property to “0.8394”.
Follow the operation method of the last two steps, set the “Property Type” parameter of “Property X Coordinate” in the second “Custom Animation” to “X coordinate”, the “value” parameter of “animation frame point setting” is modified to “ppt_x” (Figure 4), and the “value” parameter of “attribute Y coordinate” is set to “ppt_x” (Figure 4). attribute Y coordinate” parameter is set to “Y coordinate”, “value” parameter of “animation frame point setting” is modified to “ppt_x” (Figure 4), “attribute Y coordinate” parameter is set to “Y coordinate”, “value” parameter of “animation frame point setting” is modified to “ppt_x”. In the “Animation” tab, double-click the two animation options created in step 2, open the “Timing” tab of the “Customize” dialog box, and follow the instructions to set the trigger to the text “banana”.
The parameter values 0.5742 and 0.8394 in the above steps indicate the specific location of the yellow rectangle in the answer area in the slide (Figure 5). The parameters ppt_x and ppt_y in the subsequent steps indicate that after clicking on the text “banana”, this text can automatically come back after moving to the answer area.
Adding other animations
Copy the text “banana” and paste it twice, then change the content of the copied text to “apple” and “grape”, and delete The original “apple” and “grape” text boxes, then banana, apple and grape text boxes, dragged to the yellow answer area, will be able to return to the original path.
Prompt text to add animation
Select the text “You are so smart” shown in Figure 2, create an animation effect for it, a fade out animation effect, and then set the trigger of these two animation effects to the correct text “banana”, and finally double-click the two newly created Finally, double-click on the two newly created animations, open the “Timing” tab in the window, and set the “Start” parameter to “Simultaneous with previous animation”.
Create an appearance animation for the text “think again” and a fade out animation for the text “think again”, with the trigger set to the error text “apple”. Create two more such animated effects for the text “think again”, with the trigger set to the error text “grape”. Finally, set the “Start” parameter of these four animations to “Simultaneous with previous animation” and you are done.
After the above steps, the whole English word game is ready, press the F5 shortcut key to play the slide, when students click the word “banana”, the word will automatically move to the yellow rectangle of the answer area and return, while seeing the “you’re so smart! ” message (Figure 6). Conversely, clicking on the other two words will result in a “think again” text prompt.
Of course, if you want to add more questions, just copy the first slide, paste it, and then change the order of the three English words in the pasted slide at random by changing “banana” to the new correct word, “apple” and Then you can change “banana” to the new correct word, “apple” and “grape” to the new wrong word, and replace the picture corresponding to the new correct word.
For the “next level” and “exit” buttons in each slide, select them respectively and click the “Action” button in the “Insert” tab. “button, the two buttons of the “hyperlink to” option set to “next slide”, “end of the projection”, so that the entire game interface will be more perfect.
