Infographics are often displayed in slide shows. There are many third-party software available to create infographics. In fact, no additional infographic design and production software can also create infographics, just in the PPT slides, the required icons and optional graphics cleverly split, and then through the color settings, the addition of icons, a beautiful shaped infographic is very easy to produce (Figure 1).
First, create a new blank slide, set the background color. Select the “Insert” tab, click “Icons”, select the icon you need in the icon library that comes with PPT and insert it into the slide (of course, you can also download the one you like as needed). Adjust the size of the inserted icons as needed, select the inserted icons, choose the “Format” tab, click “Convert to Shape”; then switch to the “Insert” tab, click Rectangle” in “Shape”, draw a rectangle in the slide, adjust its length and width as needed; make multiple copies of this rectangle as needed, and use “Align” in the “Format” tab. Use “Align” in the “Format” tab to distribute them vertically and horizontally (Figure 2).
Next, hold down the Shift key to select all rectangles and inserted icons, switch to the “Format” tab, click “Merge Shapes → Split” to delete the unwanted part of the graphics (Figure 3).
Next, select the part of the split graphic as needed, select the “Format” tab, and use the “Shape Fill” to change the color of the shape; finally, insert the desired icon and text description for the corresponding part as needed. In this way, without any external software or plug-ins, a beautiful shape-based infographic is created.
Use “Merge Shapes” not only to create a beautiful infographic, but also to create a variety of icons. For example, by “combining” a rounded rectangle, a trapezoid and a circle, you can create a “bell” icon (Figure 4).
Another example is to use the circle in the shape to “intersect” with the image for keying to create a figurehead icon (Figure 5).
