System hacks: registry search and use management step by step

As a maintenance tool for Windows 10, the registry is very powerful. However, if you only rely on the registry editor that comes with the system, it will make beginners feel inexplicable and profound, and it is hard to feel convenient and considerate. When searching and using registry items, we can not only make full use of the search function of the registry editor that comes with the system, but also make use of third-party registry management tools such as RegScaner and Reg Organizer to make the registry operation and usage management more convenient.

1. use the system comes with a good registry search function

To find the location of a certain item in the registry, you can actually use the registry editor that comes with Windows 10. For example, to find the location of Bluetooth item in the registry, first press the Win+R key combination and type and run the REGEDIT command to launch to the registry editor window (Figure 1).

In the Registry Editor window, first click the cursor to the root of the registry directory tree “Computer”; then click the menu command “Edit→Find” (or directly press the Ctrl+F key combination) to start the Find window (Figure 2).

Enter the name of the item to be searched in the Find window, and then select the range of categories to view, for example, search only for “items”, then select only “items”, if you are not sure which category the item you are looking for belongs to, then you can check all three checkboxes and click the “Find Next” button (Figure 3).

When the entry containing the item in question is checked, it will be highlighted. If you do not see the keyword, double-click on the item under the highlighted entry to see the item in question in the window that opens (Figure 4).

If there are multiple locations in the registry that match the item being searched, select the “Edit→Find Next” command (or directly press the F3 function key) to search for the next eligible item.

2. Borrow software to achieve a more professional search

If you feel that in the Windows Registry Editor to find an item, like a needle in a haystack, no bottom in mind, then we may wish to borrow a third-party registry search tool RegScaner, to achieve a more targeted and accurate search.

After starting RegScaner software, will automatically open the search window (click the search button on the toolbar can also start the search window). In the Find String text box of the search window, enter the string of items to be searched, followed by Case Sensitive to indicate exact case matching; in the Matching drop-down list box, select the matching method (a total of 9 options to choose from); in the list of check boxes behind Look At, select the type of items to be matched, respectively, indicating value, data, item, etc.. Underneath, you can also circle the range according to the number of entry limits, time interval, registry structure range, etc. After all options are set, click the Scan button to start the search (Figure 5).

If the desired option has appeared during the search process and you do not want to continue searching, you can stop the search with the Esc key. After that, the RegScaner software window will list all the search results. Managing the search results in this way is more user-friendly than the system’s own registry editor, so we can simply right-click on the result and select Open In RegEdit from the menu to automatically launch the system registry editor to open it (Figure 6).

Tip: Through the right-click menu command of the item, you can also export the selected item, delete the selected item or key, copy the item or key, etc. You can choose the operation flexibly according to your needs.

3. Use professional search + registry cleaning software

The above two methods only realize the search of registry items. If you want to achieve more powerful management functions, such as search + clean optimization, using Reg Organizer software is more comfortable.

To achieve advanced search, after launching Reg Organizer software, find and click REGISTRY EDITOR under MISCELLANEOUS TOOLS in the left column, enter the search criteria in the right pane, start the search range (user-definable), and then you can automatically locate the registry items that meet the criteria (Figure 7).

To clean and optimize the registry, click on the REGISTRY OPTIMIZATION option in the left column to start the registry optimization window, click on the Perform registry optimization option, follow the prompts to close the running programs, and then optimize the registry.

Tip: Whether you operate the registry directly or through third-party tools, you may bring unpredictable security risks to the system itself. Therefore, you need to do a good job in advance to create system restore points and backup the registry to prevent work.
