Renaming worksheets in Microsoft Excel 2019

Worksheets are named Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3, and so on, by default.To make the workbook more meaningful (especially if you arecollaborating with others), it is a good idea to give your sheets a nameappropriate to the data contained within them.

  1. Open the SSGRegions.xlsx workbook to use for thisexample.
  2. Double-click on the sheet tab you wish to rename.
  3. The existing name will be highlighted (selected), asillustrated in the following screenshot:

  1. While the sheet name is selected, start typing a new name for thesheet, using the keyboard.
  2. Click off the sheet tab onto a cell in the worksheet; alternatively,right-click on the sheet tab you wish to rename.
  3. Choose Rename. The existing sheetname becomes highlighted (is selected).
  4. Type a new name for the sheet, and then click off the sheet tab ontoa cell in the worksheet; alternatively, click on the sheet you wouldlike to rename.
  5. From the Editing group of theHome tab, select the Format icon drop-down arrow from the Cells group.
  6. Select Rename Sheet from the Organize Sheets heading.
  7. The existing sheet name becomes highlighted (is selected).
  8. Type a new name for the sheet, and then click off the sheet tab ontoa cell in the worksheet.
