In the stage work summary PPT, you want to briefly introduce the people with outstanding performance. The photos of the people are stored side-by-side on a slide, and it is hoped that by clicking on someone’s photo, the corresponding person’s profile will be displayed. If you use PPT to achieve such an effect, the production process will be complicated. Using the Articulate Storyline 3 software layer reveal and conceal combined with the custom animation function, it is easier to achieve this effect (Figure 1).
1. Set up the character layout
Open Articulate Storyline 3 and create a new project. In the “Story View” state, double-click the “Untitled Scene” slide to enter the editing window. Select the “Design” tab, click “Article Size”, and select “Custom” in the “Article Size” pop-up window. Select “Custom” in the “Article Size” pop-up window, remove the check box in front of “Lock Aspect Ratio”, set the width to 1400 and height to 700, and right-click to set its background.
Use the “Insert” tab in the “Picture”, insert the required picture of the person. All selected pictures, select the “Format” tab, click on the “Picture Style” in the example to set a good picture style, they will be resized in the same size, and double-click on the corresponding timeline to change the name of the timeline, the timeline name will be changed to the corresponding character name. Arrange the pictures next to each other and use the alignment tool to align the top of the pictures (Figure 2).
2. Add layers and set animations
Click “New Layer” at the slide layer on the right side of the window, name the new layer “Person 1 Introduction”, double click this layer, check “Hide objects in base layer” in the pop-up window. Switch to the base layer, select all the images in the layer, copy them, then switch to the new “Introduction to Person 1” layer and paste them. On the right side of the picture, draw a rectangle, adjust the height to the same height as the picture, adjust the width according to the content of the character profile, set its fill color and border, place it on the bottom layer, right-click it, select “Edit Text” and enter the desired profile content (Figure 3).
Next, select this rectangle, select the “Animation” tab, click “Add Action Path → Line”; then click “Path Options → Right”, use the mouse to drag the animation Start point of the animation (i.e. green arrow) to the right side of the picture, so that the picture will cover this rectangle; then drag the end point of the animation (i.e. red arrow), so that the rectangle and the original rectangle overlap. In this way, the introduction animation of the rightmost picture is finished (Figure 4).
Next, create a new layer named “Introduction to Person 2”, double-click this layer, check “Hide objects in base layer” in the pop-up window, copy and paste all the pictures and rectangles in “Introduction to Person 1” to the new layer, delete the original animation; move the rectangle to the left side of the picture on the far right, enter the second character’s profile in the rectangle, combine the rectangle with the picture on the far right; select “Animation” and “Animation”. Copy and paste all the pictures and rectangles in “Character 1 Introduction” to the new layer, delete the original animation; move the rectangle to the left side of the rightmost picture, enter the second character’s profile on the right in the rectangle, combine the rectangle with the rightmost picture; select the “Animation” tab, click “Add Action Path→Line Select the “Animation” tab, click “Add Action Path→Line”, then click “Path Options→Right”, and drag the end point of the animation to the right to the appropriate position. For illustration purposes, the combination is placed on the top level (it should actually be placed on the bottom level) (Figure 5).
Double-click this layer, check “Hide objects in base layer” in the pop-up window, copy and paste all pictures and rectangles in “Introduction to Person 2” to the new layer, delete the original animation and combination; move the rectangle to the left side of the second picture from the right, enter the profile of the third person from the right in the rectangle, combine the rectangle with the two pictures from the right; add the path animation, direction to the right, drag the end of the animation to the right position (Figure 6).
Similarly, and so on, create a new layer, check “Hide objects in base layer”, paste the picture, delete the original animation, move the rectangle, enter the introduction, recombine, insert the animation, set the animation direction. The specific steps here will not be repeated.
3. Add interactive effects
Switch to the base layer, select the rightmost picture, click “New Trigger” in the “Triggers” panel on the right side of the window, select “Show Layer” in the pop-up window, and select “Layer Select “Person 1 Introduction” in the “Trigger” panel. In this way, when you click the rightmost picture, the picture and animation effect of the layer “Character 1 Introduction” will be displayed. Similarly, select other images to set the layer to be displayed (Figure 7).
Next, switch to other layers, also select the corresponding image, and add a new trigger to display the layers so that each layer can switch between each other, thus displaying the profiles of different people (Figure 8).
4. Publish your work
Click the “Player” button, and in the pop-up window, remove all the checkboxes of resources, menu and so on. Finally, click the “Publish” button, select the Web tab in the pop-up window, enter the title, set the publish folder, and publish.
