Office hacks: the use of wildcards inserted to replace half the effort

When long documents need to batch modify or delete certain content, we can use Word wildcards to get it all done, such as replacing certain text with images, batch insert tables, batch insert text, etc.. Wildcards can replace or delete the rules we define the content of the random combination, we will look at the powerful functions of wildcards!

1. Using the clipboard wildcard

o Replace batches of text with images

We want to replace the text of the team to which the player belongs in the table into the form of a picture, if the table has more records, it is very time-consuming and laborious to replace them one by one. This can be easily solved by using the “wildcard” function.

First, copy the picture of a team (such as the Shanghai team picture), open the “Find and Replace” window, enter “Shanghai” in the “Find Content”, in the “Replace with”, enter “^c”, click “More”, check “Use wildcard” in the expanded items and click “Replace All” to easily complete the task of replacing text with images. All the Shanghai team’s text immediately becomes Shanghai team’s picture.

Tip: ^c means the contents of the clipboard, that is, the contents just copied.

Batch insertion of tables with the same format

In a report may use more than one table of the same format, if the copy and paste approach is time-consuming, we use the clipboard “wildcard” will quickly get it done.

For example, to insert the sales statistics table for each region in the report, first, copy the table that has been created, open the “Find and Replace” window, and enter “(Table?)” at the “Find Content”. (^13)”, in the “replace with” enter “1^c”, click “more”, in the expanded items check the “Use wildcards”, click “Replace All” to easily complete the automatic insertion of multiple forms (Figure 2).

Tips: ? indicates any one character; the “()” in the search content is used to group; ^13 is a line break under the wildcard character. Similarly, batch insert the same text and the principle of this operation is the same. 2.

2. Batch change character style

If the report requires all numbers to be underlined, it is too much work to modify them one by one. Well, “wildcard” can also solve this problem very quickly.

In the “Find and Replace” dialog box, type “[0-9]{1,}” in the “Find Content” field and “Replace with “, enter “^32^&^32”, click the “More” button, check the “Wildcard”, position the cursor in the “Replace with” input box, and then click the “Format → Font” button, in the pop-up dialog box to select the desired type of underline and color. After setting, click “Replace All” on it (Figure 3).

Tip: “[0-9]” in the search content means a single arbitrary number between 0 and 9; “{1,}” means more than one; “^32” in the replacement content means half-space; “^&” means the content of the search.
