Software recommendations: to install a recycle bin for mobile media

Files in the hard disk will generally be temporarily saved in the recycle bin after direct deletion, but not files in removable media, when you select the file and press the Del key, the file will be deleted directly without the recycle bin. In order to give the deleted files in the removable media also eat “regret medicine”, we use a iBin software to install a recycle bin for removable media.

First, in the downloaded Bin software, we see that there is only one EXE master file. Copy this file to the removable media you want to manage. Run iBin and follow the instructions, the software will automatically create the container folder and the necessary file system in the root directory of the mobile device. After running the software, iBin will be running in the background and the Mobile Trash icon will be visible in the system tray (Figure 1).

Afterwards, if the Del key is pressed on the selected file in the removable media, or if the “Delete” command is selected via the right-click menu, iBin will detect the deletion and provide the corresponding file processing action. iBin’s specific file operation options and deletion hotkeys can be set via the settings window of the iBin software (Figure 2).

Enter the settings window through the Tray Recycle Bin icon, and in the “Erasing Methods” column at the bottom right corner, if “Detect DEL Window” is checked, it will automatically detect the DEL key deletion action under Windows. If “Activate Hotkeys” is selected, three sets of hotkeys will be used, including “Win+Del” to directly drop the selected files into the mobile recycle bin, and “Win+E” is to delete the selected file directly without entering the Recycle Bin, and “Win+BackSpace” is to undo the last deletion (Figure 3).

The processing result of the delete action in the removable media is also determined by the software configuration of the delete action. If you need to confirm the deletion, under the “Delete Action” grouping in the iBin configuration window, check Confirm; and check Erase to delete directly; check Dump to delete the file into the Recycle Bin.

There are also three ways to handle conflicts when recovering data from the Recycle Bin, as shown in Figure 2. Select Duplicate under “Restoring Data Conflict” to generate a copy; select Overwrite to overwrite the file with the same name; select Skip to skip the file with the same name.

Since the space of removable media is generally limited, you can set a limit on the space occupied by the Recycle Bin. Under the Space Limit option, operate with the slider to limit the percentage of the entire removable media space occupied by the mobile recycle bin.

In addition, the Mobile Recycle Bin has an automatic cleanup feature. There is a rich selection of options for automatic cleanup. The options include: when the iBin starts, when the iBin is full, when the drive is full, or when the data storage reaches a limited number of days. Data dumped older than XX Days.

If you want to uninstall the iBin software from the removable media, just click the “Remove iBin installation from device” button.
